AUTHORâS NOTE: Mrs. Todd lives in a senior-citizens center in Oklahoma City, but she told the author that she still has her good mind and good memory. She was right! Here is what she said about the Tulsa riot.
At the time of the riot, I lived with my parents, William Henry and Johnnie Spears. Our house was four or five blocks from Greenwood Avenue, near the railroad tracks. My folks had come to Tulsa from Macon, Georgia. I was a student at Dunbar Elementary School which burned up in the riot. Almost all of the Greenwood district burned up in that riot!
